The recent hot weather in the area has led to an increase in excessive sweating and related skin problems, including athlete's foot. Many patients are seeking treatment through both traditional Chinese and Western medicine.
Family doctors interviewed said that cases of skin problems caused by sweating have increased by 20% to 30% in the past two months.
Dr Foo Hui Jun, Deputy Medical Director and Family Physician at HMI OneCare Clinic, said that skin problems caused or aggravated by sweating have increased by 20% to 30% recently, including eczema, prickly heat, secondary bacterial infections, and athlete's foot, with athlete's foot patients accounting for about half of the cases. The patients are mainly in their 20s to 40s, and those who frequently work outdoors or need to wear shoes for long periods of time at work may be more prone to related problems.
