As Singapore celebrates SG60, HMI Institute, the social enterprise arm of HMI Medical and part of the group since 2002, continues its mission to care, educate and empower.
This year, HMI Institute deepened its commitment to a more prepared and compassionate society through a series of meaningful engagements in support of National Day Parade (NDP) 2025. From training volunteer networks to supporting behind-the-scenes teams and bringing outreach to the heartlands, each effort reflects our belief that every Singaporean can play a part in emergency readiness and care.
Equipping NDP’s Volunteer Network with Life-Saving Skills
In the lead-up to the Parade, HMI Institute supported the NDP Committee and various volunteer groups through in-kind training efforts. More than 300 individuals, including uniformed groups and Heartware Network ushers, were trained to care for children, seniors and persons with special needs during large-scale events.
These sessions focused on:
- Recognising common emergencies in vulnerable groups, such as children, the elderly and individuals with special needs
- Adapting first aid techniques for paediatric and geriatric care
- Communicating effectively and acting under pressure
In addition, over 150 volunteers received CPR and AED training, gaining both the skills and the confidence to respond when it matters most.

Impacting Over 5,000 Show Performers Backstage
Backstage at Suntec Convention Centre, HMI Institute’s trainers engaged over 5,000 NDP performers by teaching them how to respond to common medical emergency situations.
Some key life-saving skills they learnt included:
- Managing upper limb fractures using triangular bandage technique
- Control bleeding with crepe bandages technique
- Responding to adult choking emergencies
These hands-on first aid demonstrations took place during their rehearsal breaks which provided simple yet essential skills that empowers Singaporeans across all age groups to step forward as a community first responder during a medical emergency situation.

Highlighting Everyday Heroes
In a special tribute to everyday heroes, HMI Institute’s Chief Instructor, Aiman, was featured onscreen during Kit Chan’s iconic “Home” segment at NDP. His inclusion in the photography showcases honoured healthcare and emergency response professionals those who quietly equip others with the knowledge to step up in critical moments.

More for Our Community
HMI Institute’s outreach continued at the Yishun Heartland Celebration on 10 August, bringing practical demonstrations and interactive experiences to the public.
Residents had the chance to join our CPR challenge and try on the ageing simulation suit, gaining a deeper understanding of the physical challenges faced by older adults. These experiences helped reinforce the importance of empathy and community awareness in caregiving and emergency preparedness.

From empowering individuals backstage to bringing health education into neighbourhoods, HMI Institute’s involvement in NDP 2025 is a celebration of care, community and preparedness.
Every interaction is a chance to equip someone with the skills to respond during emergencies. This is how we build a Singapore that is ready, resilient and united, one confident responder at a time.
