8world - JB MediSave patients from Singapore mostly seek obstetric care

Regency Specialist Hospital, the only private hospital in Johor Bahru where Singapore patients can use MediSave, told 8world that patient numbers from Singapore have doubled since the pandemic. Nine in ten are women, most of them seeking obstetric services, including Malaysians married to Singaporeans and new Singapore citizens with family in Malaysia. The hospital sees about 150 to 200 overseas patients a day, mainly from Indonesia and Singapore.

Regency CEO Serena Yong said that while cost is one consideration, quality, safety and access to doctors matter more. A financial adviser interviewed in the report urges patients to factor in accommodation for each trip, time off work and differences in MediSave and insurance coverage between Malaysia and Singapore, and to compare total cost rather than the sticker price. With the RTS Link approaching, the report expects cross-border care to become a growing supplement to, not a replacement for, Singapore's healthcare system.
