Introduction
As a senior consultant cardiologist, Dr Parekh has a special interest in all aspects of coronary artery disease, including prevention to treatment.
Dr Parekh enjoys interacting with others and is grateful for the opportunity to do so through his work in medicine. Having an approachable persona, he possesses strong emotional intelligence and knows that healing someone goes beyond treating ailments. Besides his passion for cardiology, the support of his family was an important push for him to become the doctor he is today. As a hobby, he emcees events and finds the on-stage spontaneity needed to read and connect with the audience extremely exciting. He holds a 2nd dan Taekwondo black belt and is humbled by the lessons it has taught him about life.
Dr Pinakin V Parekh studied medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in 2006. He placed a strong emphasis on both primary and specialist care and underwent simultaneous training in internal and family medicine. He obtained his Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians (MRCP, UK) in 2011 and a Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine (GDFM) in 2012. He received comprehensive cardiology training at the National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS) and Changi General Hospital (CGH). Dr Parekh was accorded a Certificate of Specialist Accreditation in Cardiology in January 2017.
Before entering private practice, Dr Parekh was a general and interventional cardiologist at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH). As an integral part of the hospital’s dynamic coronary intervention team, he regularly performed complex angioplasties using the latest technology and by following the best research evidence. He always prioritized delivering results safely.
Dr Parekh received the Ministry of Health’s Human Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) award in 2019 and completed a successful interventional cardiology fellowship at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (LHCH) in the United Kingdom. A full year of training at the dedicated cardiothoracic centre, serving the population of Northwest England, further honed his clinical acumen and interventional skills.
Also, Dr Parekh was appointed Pioneer Cardiologist of Woodlands Health (WH). There, he had multiple leadership roles in establishing key cardiology services for the new hospital on top of his busy clinical duties. Memorably, he also had the distinct honour of being the emcee of her grand groundbreaking ceremony.
Dr Parekh is a member of the Singapore Cardiac Society (SCS) and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (FAMS) in Singapore. He is also a member of the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS) and is a registered medical practitioner with the UK General Medical Council. He has multiple international recognition for his achievements and has been inducted as a fellow in the Royal Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons (FRCP, Glasgow) in 2020, Asian Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology (FAPSIC) in 2022, and Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI, USA) in 2022.
Dr Parekh is invited regularly as a faculty member to contribute to local and international cardiology conferences. In addition, he is a sought-after speaker for his clinical cases with the interventional cardiology community across the region. He was involved in multiple research projects in KTPH where he remains a visiting consultant.
