Dr Desmond Ooi is a Senior Consultant in Vascular Surgery with a specialist interest in varicose veins, diabetic foot disease, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and aorta/carotid disease. He has over 15 years of experience in vascular and general surgery. His expert, patient-centred, evidence-based care has put many patients and their relatives at ease.

Dr Ooi has worked as a Senior Consultant at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH), where he played an instrumental role in setting up of the vascular department. He also held leadership positions such as Patient Safety Officer, for which he was accountable for clinical safety and risk management in the hospital. His team was awarded a Public Health Grant from NHG to streamline Diabetic Foot Care, which led to the establishment of the Diabetic Foot Service at KTPH.

Dr Ooi was awarded the Health Manpower Development Award by Ministry of Health, Singapore in 2016 and received specialised training in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery in the UK, where he focused on evidence-based and innovative ways to treat an array of complex vascular diseases. As an Adjunct Assistant Professor for both schools of medicine in Singapore he received multiple awards for his excellence and dedication in teaching the next generation of surgeons.

Dr Ooi’s expertise and approachable manner is recognised by various media outlets where he has been invited to provide expert knowledge and advice. He is driven to provide the best patient care, through a focus of warm and empathetic communication. This approach has earned him the Service Champion recognition derived from patient satisfaction.
