    Using MediSave in Malaysia for eligible treatments

    Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents may use MediSave for eligible elective hospitalisation and day surgery at approved hospitals in Malaysia, subject to prevailing MediSave requirements and withdrawal limits.

    Your guide to using MediSave at hospitals in Malaysia

    Since 1 March 2010, HMI Medical has supported Singapore patients who wish to use MediSave for eligible treatment at:

    Regency Specialist Hospital

    Johor Bahru

    Mahkota Medical Centre

    Melaka

    Both hospitals are part of HMI Medical, and have participated in Singapore's overseas MediSave arrangement since it began. Our HMI team in Singapore can guide you through the required referral, treatment arrangements and MediSave process.

    APPROVED FOR MEDISAVE

    Both hospitals are approved by the Ministry of Health, Singapore, for the use of MediSave. MediShield Life is not available for treatment at overseas hospitals.

    How the process works

    The referral and MediSave process is the same at both Regency Specialist Hospital and Mahkota Medical Centre. Your consultation and treatment take place at the hospital in Malaysia; the MediSave steps are handled by HMI Patient Service Centre in Singapore.

    AT THE HOSPITAL

    Schedule a specialist consultation

    Make an appointment to consult a specialist at Regency Specialist Hospital or Mahkota Medical Centre. Transport from Singapore can be arranged on request. If you would like help arranging the appointment, contact HMI Patient Service Centre on +65 6322 6333 or WhatsApp +65 9182 1602.

    AT THE HOSPITAL

    Receive your referral letter

    Following the consultation, the hospital issues a referral letter. It sets out:

    • Patient name and IC or passport
    • Diagnosis, signs and symptoms, and relevant medical history
    • Singapore TOSP code for the planned procedure
    • Total estimated cost
    • Duration of hospitalisation
    • Proposed date of surgery or admission

    Visit HMI Patient Service Centre

    By appointment only

    Bring your referral letter and make an appointment with a patient services consultant at HMI Patient Service Centre to:

    • Obtain a briefing on the administrative procedure and financial information
    • Obtain financial consultation on the estimated bill size and MediSave claim amount
    • Confirm MediSave eligibility and consult the doctor for MediSave endorsement
    • Sign the Financial Counselling (FC) form
    • Place a deposit — the amount depends on the surgery cost and the estimated MediSave withdrawal limit

    AT THE HOSPITAL

    Proceed with treatment

    Return to the hospital for your scheduled treatment. No further deposit is required on the day of admission. After discharge, the patient services consultant at HMI Patient Service Centre will assist with the necessary MediSave submissions.

    Important notes

    • Approval of any MediSave claim is subject to the Ministry of Health, Singapore.
    • Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and Long Term Visit Pass holders may use MediSave at MediSave-accredited hospitals. MediShield Life is not available for overseas hospitals.
    • New patients should consult a specialist at the hospital first to obtain the referral letter before contacting HMI.
